If you live in a part of the country where winter means biting cold air, snow, sleet, and freezing rain, I’m sure you have a checklist of things you need to get done before that first storm, or cold snap comes blowing through your town. It’s time to complete your winter checklist!

Your winter checklist:

Ensure your family has everything they need – warm coats, boots, hats, gloves, and scarves.

Equip cars with a supply of ice melt, scrapers, blankets, and anti-freeze.

Call your heating service and schedule a time for them to come out and make sure your heating system is in tip-top shape.

Clean your fireplace or woodstove and make sure you have a supply of firewood as a supplemental heat source.

Check that smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly.

Check weather stripping around windows and doors.

Put lawn furniture away, disconnect hoses, and cover AC units to protect them from winter’s harsh elements.
