Window bubbles can be installed anywhere you have a small ground-level opening into a building.
It can be a cellar or basement window or alongside the doors that open to allow outside access to the basement area.
EGRESS WINDOW
Egress is just a fancy word for an opening. It can be a door or a window.
In places where basements are common, the zoning code may require an egress, an opening to the outside big enough for someone to use to get in and out. Sometimes a window is enough, sometimes not.
If you have an egress window for a basement apartment, a window bubble allows natural light into the room, making a dark space a little brighter.
MORE SPACE
A typical window is a flat pane mounted in the wall. If it opens, it slides to the side or opens from the bottom with a hinge on the top. If you have a screen on the inside, you can open the window for fresh air and that’s about it.
A window bubble expands the available space in the protected environment. A lot of people will have a custom rounded window bubble installed. Because cats like to snooze in the sun, the window bubble provides a comfortable and protected space for the furry family member to nap. See some examples here.
If you have several such window egresses, you can put a small herb garden in each space. The herbs get sunlight. You provide the water and the fertilizer. The window bubble protects the herbs from wildlife that enjoy eating them just as much as you do.
